Parish visit to France: Saint-Pierre-de-Maillé

I took a group of parishioners to France last week, where we stayed at St Peter's International College. The weather was wonderful and we had a great time getting to know one another better and exploring some of the historic places of interest.

Mass was offered each day in the College Chapel, dedicated to Our Blessed Lady.

Here are some photos of the school itself and some of our daily visits out.

An aperitif before meals seemed to go down well.
Here, in the College Salon.

We visited the neighboring village of La Puye, the Mother House of the Daughters of the Cross, who were originally founded in the convent that now houses St Peter's School.

Two splendid side chapels house the relics of Saint André-Hubert Fournet, Founder of the Daughters of the Cross, and Joan Elizabeth Bichier des Âges, the first Superior.

A banner depicting St Jean Elizabeth.
The Congregation has charisms in education and in healthcare.

Bl. Sister Maria Laura Mainetti was a nun of the Congregation. On 6 June 2000 she was tragically murdered in Chiavenna and was declared Blessed as a martyr for the Faith last year. The Sisters are preparing a shrine for her in the Mother House.

The Sisters gave us a tour of the Convent, including their fabulous chapel and cloister.

The window above the High Altar depicting the two saints at the foot of the cross.

We also visited Château de la Boutinière, featuring on television's "Chateau DIY"
where owners Alison and Zion made us welcome and gave us a tour.

Some further photos of all the folks having a sunny old time of it!

Sixteenth Sunday of the Year

Thank you to everyone who came to our Summer Fete last Saturday and to all the helpers, especially as I was keeping my distance, still testing positive for Covid at the time. It was a gloriously sunny day and we raised £1,090.00 for the parish.

Thank you as well to Mgr Stephen Alker, who was able to come and celebrate the Sunday Masses at such short notice. I am now Covid free and with no lasting effects.

Fr Simon.
