22nd Sunday of the Year

These two photos have been framed up and are now at the back of the church. There are surprisingly few photos of the church from the past, so it seemed sensible to preserve these two by framing them.

Photograph possibly dated to 1910. Certainly pre-1925 as the stained glass windows are not in evidence. The High Altar reredos seen here was installed in 1887/8 and removed presumably in the post WWII renovations.

The wall stenciling seen here remained until 1942, when it was replaced by the paintings of the Marriage Feast at Canaan and the multiplication of the loaves.

The ceiling seen here was lowered in Fr Ames’ time, so after 1959.

The altar rails were replaced after WWII (donated by USA servicemen, based in Euxton during the war (we have the remains of them today as the kneelers). Those seen here went to St Catherine’s. Sadly they disappeared at the big re-ordering there.

The Priest is Fr Thomas Keeley. Photograph taken in 1910. Rector from 1895 and then from 18th November 1918, Parish Priest until 1939.

“Parishes” did not exist in England until a change in Canon Law in the 1916 no longer designated England as a missionary territory.

The statue of Our Lady can just about be made out above the clock face. Thought to be the same one as is now on mounted on the front elevation of the church.

Having restored the ringing of the bell, we are awaiting confirmation form Chorley Heritage bodies to go ahead with restoring the clock face to it's original look - a black face with gold numerals. And re-instating a working weather vane. The £20,000 to pay for this work has now mostly been raised but donations are still welcome!

We celebrate the Feast of Ss Joachim and Anne this Sunday,

praying especially for our grandparents.

Good St. Anne, Mother of Mary, the Blessed one among women.      Intercede for all our families so that, through the help of the Holy Spirit, we may grow together in peace  and make our home places of Christian love. May we persevere, you, in the love of Jesus and Mary & live pure and blameless lives in the sight of God.

Grandmother of Jesus, our Saviour,  you were honoured in your role of nurturing Him and bringing Him up to maturity.

Intercede for all grandparents so that they may nurture their grandchildren with love, wisdom and Faith, teaching them to find their way in life and to be right in word and in deed.
