Chev. Anthony Dickinson will be invested as the Grand Prior of the Order of St Lazarus on Saturday 29th September following High Mass at 11am in the Church of the English Martyrs in Preston.
The 50th Grand Master of the Military and Hospitaller Order of St Lazarus of Jerusalem,
H. E. Jan Dobrensky is travelling from his home in the Czech Republic
to formally ratify his appointment.
Anthony works in as a civil servant in the Justice Department but is is known widely, especially in the North West of England, for his work in sacred music, having organised choirs and musicians for many years at all sorts of liturgical and charitable events.
I post this in order to reach the many people he has worked with
who may not know of his elevation as Grand Prior in the Order in Great Britain.
If you can, do come along to Mass -
- needless to say, the music will be excellent.

ReplyDeleteHaving just returned from the elevation of Chevalier Anthony Dickinson as our new Grand Prior I can say with all honesty that I cannot recall such an uplifting time. The EF High Mass was celebrated with such beauty & the music - with trumpets & timpani - so thrilling that one wonders how we accept the banality with which some priests (very few thank God) celebrate the OF Mass. The singing of the polyphony was amazing as was the soloist & contrasted so well with the Plainchant Proper sung by the Sister Adorers which was almost heavenly. The church of St Thomas & the English Martyrs in Preston is so beautiful that it lends additional sacredness to the liturgy. Worth remembering that the canons of the ICKSP are still desperately seeking funds to restore the church to a totally weatherproof state. Our Sunday Mass was in their other Preston church, St Walburgh's, and the Missa Cantata - Plainchant throughout, was a further blessing (especially as the Sisters again sang the Proper). Theresa & I cannot wait for the next meeting of the Order of St Lazarus of Jerusalem of which we proudly call ourselves members. Atavis et Armis!
