Ascension Thursday

Now that the bishops of England and Wales are considering rejoining cosmic time and re-instating celebrating the forty days Our Lord spent after his resurrection to ... well... er forty days, I can be less shy about advertising that we are celebrating an E.F. Mass of the Ascension this evening (as well as again on Sunday!?!)

The importance of time and its rhythm is rooted in Tradition - in this case, in one of the most important parts of the Church's Tradition - Sacred Scripture. The forty days of Our Lord's fasting before going up to Jerusalem has become our annual Lent. The forty days after the resurrection has become Eastertide. Traditions rooted in Scripture that reveal Our Lord's earthly ministry and therefore have something to say to us.
Why would we want to do away with them?

Missa Solemnis of the Ascension today at 7pm
here at St Catherine's.
Light refreshments in the Pope John Paul Room afterwards.

"Ascendit Deus in jubilatione,
et Dominus in voce
tubae, alleluja."
Psalm 46:6
